About Joelyn:

I became blind overnight on April 6, 1987. I was thirty-two years old.  This was due to Multiple Sclerosis.  Before going blind I was employed as a waitress.  In January 1988 I enrolled in the Visually Impaired Program at the downtown MATC campus.  Upon completion of this program I enrolled in MATC to obtain a degree in Human Services.  Before graduation my husband of 20 years filed for divorce.  He could not handle my disability.

I found myself solely responsible to earn a living and support my teenage son.  I became aware of the Business Enterprise Program (BEP) at this time.  After graduating with an Associate’s degree in Liberal Arts I started training for the BEP and secured my first location at the downtown United States Post Office in August of 1992.  I transitioned in August of 1997 to the University of Wisconsin Parkside.  I again transitioned in January of 2012 to my current site.  This is the Racine Correctional Institute and the Sturtevant Transitional Facility.

This program has allowed me to become financially independent.  Without this opportunity I would have been relying on State Aid.  This program has given me the ability to be a productive tax paying member of society.  I regularly donate to several charities.  This is my way of giving back.  I am very proud of my work ethics and owe this to the opportunity that the BEP program has given me. I would be honored to provide your food and refreshment solutions that exceed your expectations.

Thank you!
